Laura Mercier Ultra-Blur Talc-Free Waterproof Translucent Pressed Setting Powder Review

blurred to perfection

Foreword

Laura Mercier, the OG queen of flawless skin, has released a new gem. This time, we look at an ultra-blurring setting powder in a compact form. Is it just as good as the iconic Translucent Loose Setting Powder? Let's find out.

My Skin: dry, sensitive

About the Product

Laura Mercier Translucent Pressed Setting Powder Ultra-Blur (52 USD; Made in France) - is described as an ultra-blurring pressed powder infused with skin-loving ingredients. It promises to wear comfortably and absorb excess shine.

Packaging: the brand is known for its sophisticated and minimalistic "Parisian chic" aesthetic. The Translucent Pressed Setting Powder Ultra-Blur may not be the most extravagant powder you have ever owned, however, to me this design is pretty and practical. You work with a pale pink compact that comes with a high-quality mirror and a mini velour puff of a matching color. The puff can be washed. In total, you get 6.5 g/ 0.22 oz worth of product, which is less than the loose version of the same powder for the same price. Great for on-the-go or travel.

Shade: Translucent

Formula: at the core of the Translucent Pressed Setting Powder Ultra-Blur is Mica, a light-reflective silicate mineral often found in makeup products. Followed by various texture enhancers like Silica (soft-focus effect), you get Rice Bran Wax (moisturizing), Sunflower Seed Oil (nourishing, emollient), White Lily Flower Extract (used to prevent oxidization and flashback), Tocopherol (Vitamin E, antioxidant), Sodium Hyaluronate (hydration), and more.

Texture: finely milled, smooth-pressed powder. It does not appear chalky and is shimmer-free.

Scent: none.

Shades: currently available in three shades, including Translucent, Translucent Honey, and Translucent Medium Deep to suit various skin tones. The Translucent Pressed Setting Powder Ultra-Blur is essentially free of color (hence the name), the only difference is the powder's depth of warmth and pigment.

Shade: Translucent

Application: the advised way of application is by picking up the powder with the velour puff, and gently patting it onto the areas you want to mattify or set. You may also roll the puff over areas that appear porous.

You may use more or less of the Translucent Pressed Setting Powder Ultra-Blur depending on your skin type or how shiny you get during the day.

Finish: soft, natural matte.

Wear: the Translucent Pressed Setting Powder Ultra-Blur is surprisingly quite a long-lasting powder. I have dry skin, so I do not typically use a lot of it anyway. But when I want to set my T-zone or concealer in place, it works wonders. This formula is undetectable. Neither cakey nor heavy. Lasts for up to 6-8 hours (I use a minimal amount considering my dry skin). If you are on an oily side, you may need to touch it up during the day.

Verdict

If you are a fellow fan of the Laura Mercier powders (pressed, baked, loose, or else), I have a feeling you might truly enjoy this new creation. The Translucent Pressed Setting Powder Ultra-Blur is a lovely companion for all of the busy beauties out there, who want their makeup to look nice and flawless. The blurring effect is quite soft-focused and natural. It is impossible to tell whether you have powder on or not (yet your makeup is locked in place). My only suggestion would be to rethink the pricing of this product. As excellent as this formula is, quantity-wise, you get more with the Ultra-Blur Talc-Free Translucent Loose Setting Powder. Either way, I give this launch an A rating.
