If you are a fellow Drunk Elephant skincare aficionado, then you came to the right source. In today's post, we will be discussing the brand's (what I feel like less talked about) B-Hydra Serum. Is it a hit or miss?

My Skin: dry, sensitive
About the Product
Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum (48 USD; Made in USA) - is described as an ultra-hydrating, lightweight serum that visibly replenishes your complexion and improves skin's texture and tone.
Packaging: similar to the brand's signature aesthetic, this serum comes in a rectangular-shaped plastic bottle. The baby blue cap has a twist pump to it, which helps preserve the formula and makes the user experience quite easy and hygienic. Not the most travel-friendly size though. You get 50 ml/ 1.69 fl oz of product here.
Formula: the key ingredients highlighted by Drunk Elephant are Provitamin B5 (humectant), Pineapple Ceramide (skin texture), and Sodium Hyaluronate (hydration). This is essentially a water-based formula rich in Coconut Alkanes, Glycerin, Marula Oil, and multiple fruit extracts. Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) and Sodium Hyaluronate find themselves at the end of the list, which means their content is lower compared to other ingredients mentioned above.
Cruelty-free🐇
Texture: the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum has a watery gel texture that is clear. It spreads and absorbs with ease, leaving a natural sheen.
Scent: none.
Application: unlike most brands, Drunk Elephant believe that you can always mix your unique skincare concoctions using their products. In the same fashion, the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum is viewed as a product that can be mixed with the brand's acids and oils. It is that basic yet potent formula that can be easily incorporated into any routine (no matter what products you use).
I like using this serum during both my AM and PM routines. This product is quite lightweight. It creates a nice occlusive layer for other serums and actives to go on top of.
Just like with any Hyaluronic Acid formulations, the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum performs best when applied over a damp base (following toner or essence) and further locked in with a hydrating cream/moisturizer.
first impression
Skin feels instantly refreshed, cooled, bouncy and hydrated. Other products apply beautifully on top of this serum.
long-term use
Skin is noticeably plump and rejuvenated. It feels quenched and well hydrated. I have noticed that other serums or actives perform better with the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum layered underneath them. Almost as if this formula prepares the skin to get the most out of whatever goes on top of it (whether it is Vitamin C, Retinol, AHAs/BHAs). Skin becomes more resilient to outside aggressors and any signs of possible irritation (redness, breakouts, sensitivity) are diminished.
who is going to like it
Although not a complete necessity, if you are in the mood to invest into a deeply hydrating product, then you will not be disappointed by the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum.
This formula will work for all skin types, perhaps best for those of you with dehydrated skin. I like how you can mix it with literally any other product and it still gets the job done.
Little goes a long way, so one bottle will last you at least 2-3 months.
Verdict
I discovered the B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum by accident. A tiny sample of the serum came together with one of the brand's holiday kits, so I figured I would give it a try. Now I am fully invested and I even repurchased a full size because I love just how nourishing this formula feels on my dry and sensitive skin. Sure enough, you can substitute a product like this with something more affordable from say Korean brands, however, as far as quality and efficiency go - this Drunk Elephant creation deserves more praise and love than it currently has online. As much as I like my affordable Hyaluronic Acid or Niacinamide serums, I have noticed more visible changes in my skin after using this serum compared to the rest. I will try to "dupe" it (you will be notified if I succeed), but for now I give it an A.
