Foreword
It was only natural that after years of reviewing K-Beauty products, I would finally dedicate a post to the Cosrx viral Snail Mucin line. In fact, throughout the week, I will publish not one but three reviews of the brand's top-selling snail products.

My Skin: dry, sensitive
About the Product
Cosrx Advanced Snail Hydrogel Eye Patch (28 USD; Made in Korea) - is described as a lightweight patch that is formulated with snail secretion filtrate to refresh, plump, and hydrate the under-eye.
Packaging: as with most Korean brands, the packaging is simple yet practical. The jar is made of mattified plastic. It comes with a secure inner lid to protect the patches from drying out. A pair of plastic tweezers is included. While they can feel a bit clumsy at times and poke a hole in the hydrogel, it is still a hygienic way to pick up the patch. In total you get 60 patches soaked in serum, weighing 90g/ 3.17 oz.
Formula: now onto the creme of the crop of the whole review. How ethical is it to use a snail secretion? According to Cosrx all of the brand's snail products are ethically sourced and do not harm the animal. You can read about the process in a separate article here.
PROS ☺️
At the heart of the Advanced Snail Hydrogel Eye Patch is the Snail Secretion Filtrate of 20,400 ppm. The secretion is known for its soothing, nourishing, calming, antioxidant, and hydrating qualities. This is a water-based formula, rich in Glycerin (occlusive layer), Niacinamide (multi-tasking skincare hero that tightens pores, lightens discoloration, and softens among many other things), Carrageenan (red seaweed), and Allantoin (hydration, protection).
CONS 😕
Unless you are sensitive to some of the ingredients mentioned or the thought of snails gives you an ick, there is nothing negative that stands out.
Cruelty-free🐌
Texture: each patch has a honey-combed textured pattern to ensure better adherence. The hydrogel is quite thin and transparent. The serum is clear, watery and non-sticky.
Scent: none.
Application: whenever you feel like your under-eye could use some TLC, reach out for the Advanced Snail Hydrogel Eye Patch and pop a couple on for at least 20 minutes. Take off the patch, massage any residual serum around the eye area, and proceed with the rest of your routine. Here you also get two different eye patch styles: small and big. So if there are more areas that you want to target, know that you have options.
The patches are generously soaked in serum, so to avoid sliding, make sure to scrape off some of it back into the jar or apply the excess to your neck, decolletage, or anywhere else. I find that the Cosrx patches adhere well and hydrate the skin instantaneously.
personal tip
I have noticed that whenever I use the Advanced Snail Hydrogel Eye Patch before my makeup, I then deal with pilling. This is why I think these are best used on no-makeup days or at night. If you want to use them before concealer or foundation, just make sure to take off the serum residue.
Results: as it goes with most eye patches, the results are quick. The delicate skin under the eyes looks radiant, healthy, and plump. Puffiness is diminished and you are left with a lovely cooling sensation. To keep your under-eye nourished and hydrated at all times, I would recommend using an eye cream daily and opt for patches whenever you feel like you need an extra boost.
Verdict
I must confess: I have a thing for eye patches. They are quick, easy, and a perfect pick-me-up after a long day. While the effect is generally temporary, I do believe that there is still a time and place for this product category. The Advanced Snail Hydrogel Eye Patch is amazing for many reasons mentioned earlier. I must add that my eyes are very sensitive and this serum formula never irritates them. This Cosrx creation lives up to its claims and is reliable whenever you want to show your skin some love. All in all, I do see why it is a best-seller. All things considered (including affordability) I give an B+ rating.
