Caudalie VinoHydra Sorbet Cream Moisturizer Review

that's grape love

Foreword

The VinoHydra saga continues and in today's post, we will look at the reformulated version of the iconic Sorbet Cream Moisturizer. This Caudalie gem was a massive hit when it first launched. But what about the new version? Is it just as good?

About the Product

Caudalie VinoHydra Sorbet Cream Moisturizer (38 USD; Made in France) - is described as a lightweight cream moisturizer that promises to hydrate, soothe, and calm the skin. Suitable for normal skin types.

Packaging: the VinoHydra line includes three moisturizers with varying levels of intensity. While the tubes are the same, they do differ in color. Please pay attention to the labeling on the tube and its shade of pink. The Sorbet Cream Moisturizer comes in a medium-toned pink and contains 60 ml/ 2.0 fl oz worth of product. The new packaging is a bit see-through, so you can track how much moisturizer is left inside. Each tube is sealed. Size-wise, these are perfect for on-the-go or travels.

Formula: the Sorbet Cream Moisturizer is a water-based product, rich in Grape Fruit Water (antioxidant, prebiotic), Dicaprylyl Ether (oil-based emollient), Glycerin (hydration, occlusive layer), Shea Butter Extract (nourishment), Grape Seed Extract (antioxidant), and more. You get a lesser concentration of Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Sunflower Seed Oil (soothing), Chamomile Extract (anti-inflammatory), Grape Juice (antioxidant), and various stabilizers/enhancers. Sodium Hyaluronate (deep hydration) finds itself at the bottom of the list.

😊 PROS

Most of the highlighted star ingredients are found at the top of the list, suggesting a higher concentration. Behenyl Alcohol is among them, which is a softer type of alcohol. It is less likely to irritate sensitive skin and plays the role of an emollient, actually helping to prevent moisture loss. I also appreciate that Alcohol itself is at the very bottom of the list.

☹️ CONS

This formula has added fragrance. While it is the last ingredient on the list, which tells us of its insignificant quantity, I thought to highlight this for those who want their products scent-free. As far as everyday use goes, I have not experienced any irritation with the Sorbet Cream Moisturizer.

Texture: light gel-cream consistency. Spreads and absorbs with ease.

Scent: this formula has a slight amount of fragrance. The scent (which can be described as grape-y and fresh) is quite inoffensive and does not linger.

Finish: natural.

Application: the Sorbet Cream Moisturizer can be used as part of your AM and PM routines. Since this is a lighter formulation, it layers beautifully with other products without ever feeling heavy or thick. It absorbs with ease and works well with both makeup and suncare.

first impression

Unlike the Deep Hydration Moisturizer (which is a denser, richer formula), you do not have to worry about how much you use or how you blend the moisturizer. It is quite hydrating, even for a dry skin type. Skin feels refreshed, plump, and soft. The sensation lasts well throughout the day. The Sorbet Cream Moisturizer does not feel sticky, tacky, or like it sits on top of the skin.

long-term use

Skin is radiant, healthy, and well-hydrated. In my case, it does not clog pores or cause breakouts. While I am not the biggest fan of higher concentrations of Alcohol in skincare formulations (referring to Behenyl Alcohol), as it can be damaging to the barrier over time, thankfully I did not experience any adverse reactions with the Sorbet Cream Moisturizer. While I truly enjoy the Deep Hydration Moisturizer for winter months, ideally a lighter formulation like this one is best for spring and summer. Or anyone living in a humid climate.

Verdict

While I am not the biggest fan of reformulations of cult-favorite products, (after all, how many times things have gone south?), I have to admit that the new version of the Sorbet Cream Moisturizer is just as wonderful as I remember it. It may not be as mousse-like as the original (that texture was phenomenal), but it still gets the job done and keeps skin looking and feeling great. A lovely, easy-to-use, reliable moisturizer that many will adore. An A from me.
