lovers on the sun
Foreword
Not long ago, we chatted about the Round Lab sunscreen (reviewed here), a top seller in Korea. It was only natural to shift the focus to the other side of the World and see why everyone raved about the guest star of today's article. What is so special about this Beauty Of Joseon creation?

My Skin: dry, sensitive.
About the Product
Beauty Of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics SPF 50+ PA++++ Sunscreen (18 USD; Made in Korea) - is described as an organic sunscreen that is lightweight, moisturizing, and comfortable. It offers protection from UVA and UVB rays.
Packaging: simple, minimal, and practical design as always with Beauty Of Joseon. You get a nice little tube that contains 50 ml/ 1.69 fl oz worth of product. It is portable and travel-friendly. You can also see the expiry date printed on the box, which is something I wish all brands would do.

Formula: the Relief Sun Sunscreen is categorized as a chemical sunscreen. Unlike most sun protection formulations you see in the West, this formula offers beneficial skin-loving ingredients. Protect and nourish your skin in one go. What not to love?
This is a water-based formula rich in Rice Extract (30%), Grain Fermented Extracts (rich in Vitamins B, C, and E), Propanediol (skin-smoothing emollient), Niacinamide (offers protection, brightening, and helps build protein in the skin), Rice Germ Extract (reduces UV damage and increases ceramide production), Camellia Leaf Extract (antioxidant), Sugarcane Extract (improves the synthesis of Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid), Kelp Extract (anti-inflammatory, skin-brightening properties), Coconut Fruit Extract (improves skin barrier), Ginseng Root Extract (improves skin elasticity, hydration) and more.
Cruelty-free🐇 Reef Safe🪸
Texture: smooth, creamy, weightless. Neither sticky nor thick. The Relief Sun Sunscreen has a noticeable blue shift to it. Once it sets there is no white cast in sight.
Scent: none.
Application: ideally used as the last step in your AM skincare routine. Use a desirable amount on your face and neck. I find that this formula absorbs quite fast and sets to a natural skin finish with a soft sheen.
The Relief Sun Sunscreen works great under my eyes (which are very sensitive). Even though the brand suggests avoiding "contact with eyes", I still want to protect my "pandas". So, I tested this formula with and without makeup and it worked just fine. No stinging or irritation occurred.
This formula plays well with makeup and skincare in general. No balling, pilling, or greasing in sight. Safe for the fans of skin-actives, such as Retinol for example. Even if your skin is on the sensitive side, the Relief Sun Sunscreen will comfort it with a soothing embrace.
Wear: comfortable, feather-light to the point where I often forget I even have it on. Works beautifully for drier skin. Does not get overly shiny or accentuate texture. Survived sweaty workouts and humidity, without ever feeling "suffocating" or itchy.
Verdict
Korean sunscreens for the win. Not only are they affordable and superior to the ones made in the West, but they are also a joy to wear. If you are on a hunt for a high-protection chemical sunscreen, that is both dependable and elegant in feel, look this way. The Relief Sun Sunscreen feels a touch more hydrating compared to the Birch Juice Moisturizing Sunscreen and might be better for people with drier skin types (or those living in a drier climate). Having said that, I believe it is a wonderful formula that most (if not all) skin types will adore. This Beauty Of Joseon may look undetectable but it does the job. We have a clear winner here and I give it a well-deserved A++.
